Happy 4th of July!

For those of you who celebrate, I hope you're all having a great 4th of July! And for everyone else, I hope you are having a good Wednesday!

For the American flag nail: I sectioned off one square to leave blank and painted two coats of Cult Nails Evil Queen so that I could have a red base before the stripes. Then, for the sectioned off part I painted two coats of OPI Dating a Royal for the blue. Once all of that was completely dry I used my dotting tool for the white dots to represent the stars. And I used my white striping tape for the stripes in the flag!

For the rest of my nails: I painted two coats of Cult Nails Evil Queen, then did one coat of Sephora by OPI Flurry Up! (silver hex glitter), and lastly, I did one coat of Icing Disco Ball (blue hex glitter).

Icing I Like The Nightlife

This is the other polish I picked up, along with Shredded, on my shopping trip with Steph. They were buy 1, get 1, 50% off...so of course I couldn't buy just one!

Three coats of Icing I Like the Nightlife. This is a slightly sheer periwinkle blue polish with lots of blue microglitter and tons of pretty pink shimmer. So beauitful!

It was a little hard to capture the pink shimmer on camera, so here's a slightly blurred bottle shot to show you! I promise the shimmer is easily visible in real life, just something about my camera didn't want to capture it on my nail.

Sorry this picture is kind of weird, but it shows the pink shimmer really well!

Do you see what doesn't belong in this pic??! LOL I was trying to take pictures and Marvin wanted to get in on the action...I laughed so hard when I saw that his little nose got caught on camera!

On a side note, this is my 50th post! That seems like soo many lol!

Annnd, everytime I hear the number 50...I think of this:

hahaha! Old SNL skits will never get old to me.

Tomorrow I'm headed on vacation with my family for a week! I'm going to try and schedule a few posts, but I can't promise anything. I'll definitely have lots to post about when I get home, because I'm gonna take some polish with me and try to take some pretty polish/beach pictures while I'm there :)

Black and Yellow

The nails I'm showing you today are pretty badass.

Cult Nails Feel Me Up with Icing Shredded on top!

To achieve this look I used three coats of Feel Me Up with one coat of shredded on top. Feel Me Up is the perfect "buttercup yellow" and that's how the color got it's name! (Feel me up, buttercup...get it?! :p ) This polish is slightly jelly-like so that's why it need the 3 coats. I forgot to photograph Feel Me Up on it's own before I applied the glitter, but the color shown here is exactly what it looks like.

I found this polish last weekend at Icing when I went on a lunch/shopping trip with Steph from Imperfectly Painted. We like to do those once a month or so. I was SUPER excited when I saw this polish because up until now, I had only seen a black shredded glitter polish from some makers on Etsy (the name is escaping me right now). I almost passed this polish up, because I thought it was a shatter at first glance...I'm so glad I double checked!

Turning a loser into a winner!

So, Sunday night I was on my way home from dinner with my boyfriend and  I decided to stop in Walgreens to see if they had anything new. I was excited to see that they had the new Revlon display out and then I was even more excited to see this beautiful aqua jelly polish. I scooped it right up and didn't buy any of the others.

Revlon Sheer Seafoam. Doesn't it seem amazing?!

While watching Mad Men that night I decided to try it! WELL, it was a complete flop of a color. Just look at what I mean:

This is one coat of Sheer Seafoam. Can you see anything besides my gross staining?! Yea, me either! Now, I know jellies are supposed to be sheer, but this went on legit CLEAR.

So, I kept trying...I was determined to get the color of what it looked like in the bottle. Well, this is three coats...still nothing even close to what a jelly should look like lol.

Having been super disappointed that this color didn't turn out as pretty as I had imagined it would be, I decided to turn this mani into some kind of layering experiment!

So I grabbed Revlon Just Tinted in Desire and Icing After Party!

Here are my final results:

Pretty awesome right?! This is my first time doing a "jelly sandwich." For those of you that dont know, it's when you layer a sheer polish (jelly) with glitter, to make it look like the glitter is sandwiched between the layers of polish.

To achieve this look I did sooo many layers of polish lol EIGHT to be exact. Here are the layers in order:

3 coats of Sheer Seafoam

1 coat of After Party

1 coat of Sheer Seafoam

1 coat of Desire

1 coat of After Party

1 coat of Desire

This manicure would have taken days to dry even with a nice quick dry top coat, so shortly after these pictures were taken I had fun peeling it all off in sheets lol.

Damn you Sheer Seafoam for looking so beautiful in the bottle!

I contemplated whether I should take it back after I did that first coat and then I just decided it'd be fun to keep to try different layering experiments or maybe franken with. Revlon could have had such a huge win with this polish had it been more pigmented and buildable. Oh well!
